FOUNDATION STREAM
CPG has long provided education to pharmacists starting out in cancer or keen to learn more about cancer therapies.
In the 2025 Foundation Stream participants will work interactively to gain knowledge in the more common cancer types as well as develop understanding and skills in the safe and accurate review of anticancer therapy orders.
Prior to attendance at the Clinical Practice Education for Cancer Pharmacists Weekend, participants will have access to recorded content covering both the pharmacology of anticancer therapies and the common toxicities of cancer therapy.
This work will help participants over the course of the Foundation stream to work through real-life scenarios and discussions.
Previous participants have highlighted the value of this targeted education and the benefit of access to both experienced cancer pharmacists as well as the ability to network with other pharmacists.
Feedback from 2024 Foundation Stream participants
“I really enjoyed the weekend with the two days split into various body systems. It was interactive, which for me I think made things click with practical aspects of work.”
“I really enjoyed the layout and the timing of the course. The content was just right with the right amount of discussion between tutors and peers. Would really recommend others new or fresh to the field to attend “
ADVANCED STREAM
The COSA CPG offers an interactive, expert-led forum for pharmacists working at an advanced clinical level, who have a good understanding of oncology and/or haematology pharmacy practice.
Topics covered change every year to focus on new areas of knowledge, updates in topics where advances are being made and topics to help experienced cancer pharmacists develop both clinically and professionally. In 2025 our program is again shaping up to offer a wide variety of topical areas and expertise.
Planned topics include:
Breast Cancer Update
There has been a number of important treatment advances in Breast Cancer in recent times.
There are increased options and responses in previously harder-to-treat subgroups or patients with resistant & recurrent disease. This session will look at some of the newer therapeutic optins for these patients.
Individualised & Precision Oncology
The goal of precision medicine is to deliver the right cancer treatment to the right patient and is not purely determined by the “area” of cancer. Precision oncology is defined as using molecular profiling of tumours to identify targetable alterations and treating with agents that directly target that alteration.
Somatic & Germ-line Mutations and Therapy
The presence of somatic or germ-line mutations has long been recognised to increase a person’s risk of cancer.
The use of monitoring & therapies to decrease an at-risk persons life-time risk of developing cancer has been established with the use of prophylactic surgeries and regular screening.
This session will look at both advances in prevention and treatment of germ-line or somatic mutation cancers.
Keep an eye out - other topics will be announced as they are finalised!
Feedback from 2024 Advanced Stream participants
“Excellent, informative, diverse range of topics with engaging speakers”
“I thought the weekend was excellent, educational, social and entertaining. The programming was well thought out, having the debate and the interactive MDT sessions later in the program were so good and kept me engaged until the very end of the day.”
