CPG Foundation Course, 25 - 27 May 2018

The COSA Cancer Pharmacists Group (CPG) is hosting their 11th Foundation Clinical Practice Course and their first 3-day program from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th May 2018 at the new location Rydges South Bank Brisbane.

The course is designed to assist pharmacists new to cancer management to develop clinical skills in cancer pharmacy practice. We combine informative lectures, interactive workshops and panel discussions to assist in the development of skills and abilities in the many processes involved in providing cancer treatment to our patients, with focus on the management of key tumours.

This course is delivered ‘by cancer pharmacists, for cancer pharmacists’ with speakers who are experienced cancer pharmacists and members of the CPG. These pharmacists work in a variety of settings across Australia at a multidisciplinary level, and have been invited to lead the course, not only for their vast knowledge and experience, but also their skills and ability at teaching and running workshops.

The CPG committee is pleased to announce the following highlights of the Foundation Course:

  • A full day of lectures and a panel discussion under the theme of ‘An Introduction to Cancer Therapy and Pharmacology’.  Sessions will cover the principles of anticancer therapy, anticancer drug pharmacology and administration of cancer chemotherapy. Additionally, a medication safety focus involving a workshop on oral chemotherapy will conclude the day.  
  • Lecture sessions on chemotherapy related toxicities i.e. haematological, gastrointestinal, organ dysfunctions
  • Panel discussions following each session during the day
  • Workshops on understanding chemotherapy protocols and organ dysfunction
  • Disease based workshops on multiple myeloma, breast and lung cancer
  • Lecture sessions on immunotherapy toxicities and emergencies in oncology
  • Disease based workshops on melanoma, lymphoma and colorectal cancer
  • Interactive case based series on the pharmacist’s role in the safety, quality and governance of cancer chemotherapy
